Administrative Assistant - Crisisline

Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time administrative position as Crisisline Assistant.  The Crisisline Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the Crisisline Directors in volunteer recruitment activities, in coordinating the logistics and setup for training events, assuring Crisisline shift coverage, and assuring that the counseling center is maintained to best support the work of the counselors.  This is a twelve month, daytime, 15 hour, 3-5 day per week position needing some flexibility with hours, requiring a valid NYS drivers license.

Director of Interactive Theatre

Join a committed team!  Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service seeks a Director of Interactive Theatre to create, direct, and lead mental health-based Role Player presentations. 15-20 hours per week as staff or contractor.

Job Description - Administrative Assistant Crisisline

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

-  Provide administrative support to the Crisisline Directors 15 hours per week (12-18).  This will include at least three 3-hour periods in the office during regular business hours, as agreed by the Crisisline Directors and Assistant.   

-  Event Planning and Execution:
    o Postering, sending emails, posting on listservs
    o  Provide logistics coordination for training events.  Includes running errands and 4-5 weekend 2-day training events when Assistant may be needed. 

-   Assure all Crisisline shifts are covered via scheduling and “shift reminder” methods (ie, emails, phone calls, call sheets)  

-   Crisisline administrative functions, including database or document input, assembling usage data and reports, and others.  

-   Maintain Crisisline calendar, logbook, supplies, bulletin boards, and other counselor resources.  

-     Maintain Crisisline physical spaces, including counseling room, kitchen and restroom, and running errands

-      Respond to business phones

-      Update counselor mail and phone lists

-     Assist in the preparation of mailings (paper and electronic)

-      Copy, fold, and stock brochures and other documents

-      Hang posters and flyers in the community

Assist staff as needed.

-      Assist as necessary in volunteer recruitment activities

 

Qualifications:

Ability to carefully follow direction

Attention to detail, accuracy and neatness

Ability to work independently utilizing own initiative

Ability to be flexible as needed by the demands of the position

Ability to maintain the confidential nature of Crisisline work

Ability to work as part of a team

Data entry and pc competence

Some experience scheduling and coordinating small events

NY State Drivers License required

Job Description

Job Title: Director of Interactive Theatre

Summary:

The Director of Interactive Theatre is responsible for all aspects of running the Role Players, a semi-improvisational theatre troupe. The Role Players are an educational ensemble of volunteers, whose purpose is to address mental health and life issues, teach about communication skills, and facilitate problem solving as they relate to each unique audience. The Role Players present an average of 10-12 programs per year.  The position is 53% of full time (an average of 20 hours per week), but may vary widely from 10 to 30 hours per week.  It requires a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends, as well as maintaining some regular office hours for administrative work.

 

The position supports the overall educational programs and mission of SPCS, helping individuals prevent violence to themselves and others, and promoting constructive responses to crisis and trauma.

 

Primary and Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Seek, field, and develop requests for Role Player programs
  • Meet with representatives from organizations requesting presentations
  • Research and write scenes, tailoring them to the specific issues presented by requesting organizations
  • Contact role players to cast scenes, schedule rehearsals and trainings, and arrange for transportation to and from locations of presentations.
  • Direct rehearsals
  • Facilitate presentations from start to finish, including welcome, scene set-up, facilitation of audience reactions and interactions with actors and each other, and wrap-up.
  • De-brief actors after presentations
  • Follow up with requesting organizations
  • Recruit and train New Role Players
  • Provide ongoing training and in-services for current Role Players
  • Publicize Role Player ensemble – who they are and what they do
  • Organize and hold an annual Role Player appreciation event
  • Develop and coordinate all Arts initiatives of SPCS
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Director of Interactive Theatre is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and recognizing the achievements of the volunteer Role Players.

 
Qualifications:

Expertise in semi-improvisational theatre, including acting, scene writing, and directing and training actors.  Knowledge of issues that affect the mental health of individuals across the life spectrum.  Strong written and oral presentation skills and the ability to work well with staff and volunteers and clients of all ages and capabilities. Maturity and capability of leading public discussions of difficult topics and issues. Computer skills in word processing. Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. Own vehicle and valid NYS driver’s license are required.  Must pass NYS background check.

 
Education and/or Experience:

B.A. in Theatre, or equivalent work experience and some training in mental health issues. Experience in interactive theatre for social change. Education and/or experience in mental health issues and issues pertaining to human behavior across the life span.

 
Language Skills:

Strong writing and editing skills, strong oral skills and command of grammar.

 
Physical Demands:

Must be able to transport and set up equipment and materials for presentations.

 
Mathematical Skills:

Must keep detailed records of individuals and groups served, and adhere to budgetary guidelines.

 
Reasoning Ability:

Critical, analytical, and strategic thinking.  Creativity essential.
